Baylor PLS Past Presidents

If your inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and  become more, you are a leader - John Quincy Adams

I’m Merissa Sabol, a Baylor alumna and former President and co-founder of Baylor Pre-Law Society. I graduated from Baylor in May 2014 with a B.A. in Political Science and minors in English and Rhetoric and Argumentation. After graduating, I took about a year off from school and worked for an oil and gas company, Pioneer Natural Resources, in Irving, TX in the Procurement/Supply Chain department, and worked occasionally with General Counsel. Now, I am a 2L at SMU Dedman School of Law in Dallas, TX. I hope to build a career in a law firm working on corporate transactions, working for a company as in-house counsel, or working for a firm specializing in venture capital and start-ups. In my free time, I enjoy checking-out the Dallas food and craft beer scene (quickly followed by the gym), landscape photography, travel, and mentoring SMU’s 1L students.

Baylor Pre-Law Society was created for the purpose of uniting young professionals striving to better themselves and their community in the legal profession. We wanted to establish an organization that allowed you to build life-long relationships with prominent attorneys in diverse practices so that you could match your passions and interests with your career. Being a member of Pre-Law Society immensely educated me about the legal profession and the law school admissions process and helped me build lasting relationships with attorneys I otherwise never would have had the opportunity of meeting. Moreover, the generous and supportive faculty advisors to Pre-Law Society were the most important mentors I had in writing my personal statement and building my applications. Without their advice and guidance, my applications would not have been as strong. Perhaps most importantly, Pre-Law Society allowed me to cultivate friendships with other goal-oriented Baylor students who are now aspiring attorneys in my professional network.

Merissa Sabol

Co-Founder & President 2013-2014

As the former President of the Baylor Pre-Law Society, I received invaluable benefits which continue to help me as I pursue my legal career. I am currently a second year law student at the University of Oklahoma College of Law- a law school that I love, but would have never considered, but for my involvement in PLS. Overall, this organization helped me afford LSAT preparation classes, apply to law school, and negotiate my law school offers.

Through PLS, I received a scholarship with Kaplan which allowed me to attend a Kaplan LSAT prep course. Also, I had a very close relationship with Ms. Cano (the previous Pre-Law advisor) who helped me with my entire application process and my decision to choose
OU Law. Lastly, I assisted Ms. Cano with the inaugural Pre-Law fair in 2015, and it was through those programming efforts that I met and established personal relationships with law school recruiters around the country. After that event, I spoke heavily with several recruiters, visited schools, and ultimately made my decision. Because of my unique relationships with recruiters, I had an upper-hand when it came time to negotiate my scholarships, etc. This organization truly sets you up for success, and it can help you years down the road.

Tiffany Guillot

President 2014-2015

RYan Casey

President 2015-2016

I served as the Baylor Pre-Law Society vice-president during the founding year before becoming president the following year. I graduated from Baylor in December 2015 with a B.A. in History and a minor in Environmental Studies. I currently attend Michigan State University College of Law in East Lansing, MI. As of now, I am still unsure of the area of law I plan to practice.

Being a part of the Pre-Law Society was one of my most memorable experiences during my time at Baylor. The organization allowed me to meet people from various majors and classes that I otherwise would not have had the opportunity to meet. Along with the connection to other like-minded and goal-oriented students, the friendships that I established actively exist to this day. In addition, being involved with the Society gave rise to opportunities to meet and exchange information with prominent attorneys from the Waco area and beyond. The information I gathered from the attorneys has been key to narrowing down the areas of law that interest me, while meeting with the attorneys helped expand my professional network.

Being active in the Baylor Pre-Law Society is a fantastic way to begin your legal career. The Society was formed to give future-lawyers the tools and opportunities to make the undergraduate step in the legal career path an enjoyable and beneficial experience, while also preparing students for the leap into law school.
